At the DI Digital general assembly earlier this month, former Danish minister of finance, Bjarne Corydon, spoke about the prospect of seeing 40 % of Danish working hours being automated in the near future. How should the labour market brace itself for such a major development?
That was the subject of a panel discussion last week at “Folkemødet” in Bornholm, where Vice Chairmand of LO, Nanna Højlund, Chairman of FTF, Bente Sorgenfrey, Center Head of TI, Hanne Shapiro, and DI Digital boardmember and Cadpeople CEO, Claus Møller, participated. Claus believes that the most important step we need to take towards evolving our labour market is further education. Because when work tasks are automated, we need to educate ourselves further in order for our work to remain valuable. Therefore, we need to revolutionise our further education to match the digital nature of the new labour market. And how do we do that? Claus believes that digital learning is part of the answer.
A good example of further education that adapts to the changing industry through digital learning is Universal Robots Academy. The academy, created by Universal Robots and Cadpeople, is a free-to-use online digital learning course, where participants can learn how to program collaborative robots to perform various tasks. This is a great example of how we can evolve the work force to tackle automation challenges.
And while this poses a challenge for society, the biggest challenge for us is to communicate the solution – to put the challenges into perspective, and to speak clearly through the noise. Because the storyline of impending doom is easier to sell but not healthy for our society. That is why we will continue to develop innovative digital learning solutions – because at the heart of our work is the aspiration to communicate the complex, simply.
