Digital site orientation
for offshore
technicians
The project
The learning transformation
Equinor is one of the world's leading energy companies and a major player in offshore wind. Their technicians, contractors, and suppliers work across multiple offshore sites, so how do they prepare the many hundreds of offshore technicians for safe operations before they even step offshore?
The challenge
CONSISTENT TRAINING ACROSS A DIVERSE WORKFORCE
Equinor wanted to replace their traditional site inductions with a digital learning experience that could ensure consistent training across their diverse offshore workforce.
Equinor’s workforce has varying roles, responsibilities, and technical competencies – meaning not everyone requires the same training. The challenge was, therefore, not only to communicate critical safety, environmental, and operational procedures, but also to create and deliver the right content to the right people.
Creating the 'classroom feeling' in a digital format
Knowing Equinor’s workforce’s preferences, it was important for us to create the safe and well-known “classroom feeling” in this new digital format. So, to re-create some of the dynamics in a physical classroom while maintaining the flexibility of digital learning, we introduced a digital instructor who acted as a narrative red thread across all 16 learning modules.
The instructor guides learners, introduces topics, asks reflective questions, and makes complex safety information more accessible and relatable.
The solution
Knowing the workforce
MEET THE TEAM
The x factor: arriving better prepared from day one
By moving the site orientation online, Equinor gains a scalable and cost-effective training solution that reduces the need for physical classroom sessions and travel. Technicians, contractors, and suppliers can complete training anywhere and arrive onsite better prepared from day one.
At the same time, Equinor benefits from standardised safety training across their locations and target groups. This helps ensure that critical knowledge is communicated consistently throughout their workforce.
