E-Islet Scanner

Heriot Watt / University of Edinburgh

The challenge

Visualising complex science

Explaining cutting-edge medical technology in a way that’s engaging, simple, and effective is no small task, especially when the audience includes potential investors, grant providers, and medical stakeholders. That was the challenge behind the E-islet Viability Scanner, a groundbreaking innovation in diabetes research that allows for the precise scanning of islet cells before transplantation.

The team behind the scanner needed an explainer video that could clearly communicate the scanner’s value, quickly.

I work with bioelectricity! As soon as I mention it, I can see eyes glazing over. Our new technology relies on electrical sensing at its core, and we quickly realised we needed a clear, visual way to explain the concept. The Cadpeople team listened, offered great advice, and worked with us iteratively to create this fantastic video.

Excellent staff who had good ideas and concepts that met with us and actively helped develop the animation.

The solution

Turning science into a story worth sharing

We created a short, animated explainer that transforms complex science into a clear, compelling pitch. Rather than just describing how the E-islet Viability Scanner works, the video shows why it matters, highlighting its role in solving a critical challenge in islet transplantation: identifying which cells are viable before use.

By working closely with the client’s research team, we found the right balance between simplicity and scientific accuracy. The result is a focused visual narrative that’s not only easy to understand but also hard to forget. It’s ideal for pitches, funding rounds, and stakeholder meetings.

The value

A small video with a big role to play

This video has become a cornerstone of the E-islet team’s communication strategy. It streamlines pitch presentations, accelerates discussions with potential funders, and strengthens applications to accelerators and innovation programs.

By leading with a clear and confident story, the team no longer has to start from scratch. Each conversation begins with impact.

PSST… THERE’S MORE.
